When it comes to choosing a new helmet the choice is outstanding however with so many helmets to choose from how can you narrow things to getting a helmet thats first and foremost 'Safe to Use'

All modern helmets are require to meet the EN 1078 Satefy Standard, entitled Helmets for pedal cyclists and for users of skateboards and roller skates, is a European standard published in 1997. It is the basis of the identical British Standard BS EN 1078:1997.

Compliance with this standard is one way of complying with the requirements of the European Personal Protective Equipment Directive (PPE; 89/686/EEC).

EN 1078 specifies requirements and test methods for bicycle helmets, skateboard and roller skate helmets. It covers helmet construction including field of vision, shock absorbing properties, retention system properties including chin strap and fastening devices, as well as marking and information.

The argument that helmets do not save lives or protect your head on impact over 15mph is long gone, with modern helmets now clinically proven to reduce the amount of injury to a riders head in the event of a crash and if you plan to race helmets are now compulsory whatever the discipline

Other factors to consider whilst choosing your new helmet are Aerodynamics and Ventilation.
